Ben is a blind horse who really needs a friend (don’t we all?). Horses are social animals, but it’s difficult for Ben to interact with his peers since he can’t respond to visual cues. And without a “seeing-eye buddy” to help him navigate the world around him, he hasn’t been able to safely roam free in the pasture. Danielle and Ilana are determined to find him a friend, so that Ben can get outside and live his best life at Dog Tales.
But first dates are always hard, even if you’re a horse. The first two Ilana tried introducing to Ben didn’t respond well to his lack of social skills. (Horses might not be able to talk, but they’re very good at communicating their displeasure.) Thankfully, there was one more horse at Dog Tales with the kind of temperament that might suit Ben’s needs.
Salt is kind of a loner, but after a few days of stabling him next to Ben, Ilana thinks they’re ready to take a turn around the pasture together. A lot could go wrong, but the trainers have to take a chance if they want to create a real friendship.
And the risk pays off. Ben and Salt interact with each other peacefully and quickly start eating together, the universal sign of community. And Ben is soon following Salt around the pen, just like Ilana and Danielle intended.
Looks like this could be the start of a beautiful friendship.
