The trainers at Dog Tales Rescue haven’t been able to take Moby, one of their most challenging rescue dogs, out of his kennel. Moby came from one of the worst shelters in Israel, where he had no human interaction or proper nutrition, and as a result, he’s extremely timid and skittish around people. Although Carley’s made a lot of progress with Moby, getting a leash on him has proven impossible, so Dog Tales has brought in a top dog behaviourist, Aimee Sadler, who is committed to helping them find a way to get Moby outside.
“Even in beautiful kennels like this, they’re not supposed to be living in kennels,” says Aimee. “I am desperate everywhere I go that it cannot be like this. You have to get them out. This is not in their best interests.”
Their plan for Moby is to start small—getting him on a leash—then, into a collar and, eventually, out the door. And slowly but surely, with some gentle coaching from Aimee, Carley and Moby are able to get past that critical first step.
Getting him on leash is a big milestone, but unfortunately, they just can’t risk taking him out without a collar on, so Moby is stuck indoors for a bit longer yet. But it’s a big step in the right direction, and Aimee and Carley are confident they’ll be able to get Mobey into a collar and out of his kennel soon.
