Finding the right home for the rescues at Dog Tales takes a lot of work, but for dogs with special needs, the adoption process can be particularly challenging. They require a lot of extra care and attention, which not all families can provide.

Trigger is an amazing dog. He’s incredibly smart and incredibly sweet but he also suffers from a degenerative retinal condition, which is causing the three-year-old Dutch Shepherd to go blind.

In other words, he’s exactly the kind of dog Emily and Mike are looking for. In fact, it was the work Dog Tales does with disabled dogs, in particular, that brought them to the rescue. “I’m half deaf and I have really bad anxiety,” explains Emily. “And I feel like people don’t give dogs like that a chance, so, I wanted to adopt a dog that I could relate to.”

Their special connection with Trigger is apparent from the moment they meet, and when Danielle finally gives the go-ahead for the couple to take Trigger home, Emily and Mike are positively beaming.

“He’s going to change our world, and we’re going to change his, and that’s all that matters.”
