For many, the holidays are a welcome time of indulgence, when the sweet tooth is fed perhaps a little more than it usually is. We’re embracing the holiday spirit by rounding up all of our favourite cookie recipes. Because we believe you should spend more time baking, sharing and eating cookies and less time hunting for their recipes on the web this holiday season.

Happy baking, and happy holidays.

Shaka Shaka Cookies

If you’re looking to make a child-friendly dessert, this is it. After all, there’s nothing better than a cookie hiding candy that you can literally shake out into your hand.

Khanon Kleeb Lamduan (Thai Shortbread Flower Cookies)

A great cultural twist on a holiday favourite, these Thai shortbread cookies make a festive statement, both on the plate and on the palate. Let’s face it, there’s something a little more refined about these flower-shaped versions than the standard circular cookies. Don’t be too surprised when your friends ask you for the recipe.

Sri Lankan Rose Cookies

They say “rose” in the name, but we can’t help but see “snowflake” in these delicious and simple treats, especially when they’re dusted with white icing sugar. They call for rice flour and coconut, so they’re gluten-free as an added bonus.

Shortbread Wedges

It’s obvious that Martha Stewart’s warm, homey kitchen is the place to be over the holidays. Create a similar effect chez toi with these stackable shortbread wedges. They package up nicely, and would even make a great little gift. Your coworkers sure are lucky.

Crunchy, Chewy Ginger Cookies

If you ask us, the perfect ginger cookie is both crunchy and chewy. The trick with these is moving them to a wire rack when they’re set but the centre is still soft. If you’re going to leave a cookie for Santa, this is it.

Brandy Snaps

The winner is the thinner when it comes to these brandy snaps. The slim, crispy treats pair perfectly with a scoop of candy cane ice cream on top.

Chewy Chocolate Ginger-Molasses Cookies

With fresh notes of ginger and chunks of semi-sweet chocolate, these chocolate ginger-molasses cookies are just the kind we could indulge in along with a cup of hot coacoa on a holiday morning (or any morning). Merry Christmas to us.

Dulce de Leche Cookie Sandwich

These little cookies are filled with all the best parts of the holiday season: elegance, butter and brandy. And unless there’s some kind of Christmas miracle, there’s no way you’ll just eat one of them.

Cinnamon and Maple Oat Cookie

If you want your house to smell like the holidays, pop a baking sheet of these cinnamon and maple oat cookies in the oven. Be warned: your neighbours may unexpectedly drop by for a taste.

Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

You haven’t truly lived until you’ve tried Jessica McGovern’s chewy chocolate chip cookies. Warning: they’re insanely addictive.

Lace Cookies

Simple, tasty and ever-so-classy, what are these cookies lacking? Nothing… that’s what.
